Dad loved being out on the water. The lake was always his happy place.
About a week ago my dad texted me a smiling selfie of him on his jet ski along with the words “meet me at the lake”.
I knew that meant he was riding by our lakefront park down the street from our house. Connor had just finished school so I asked Connor if he wanted to run down to the park with me.
So the two of us ran down the street into the park and down to the dock. Connor saw a jet ski coming towards us and got excited when he realized it was Bud on the jet ski.
He looked so happy that day. We talked to him for a little bit while he floated next to our pier.
When it was time to part ways he told us to smile and snapped a picture of me and Connor.
Then we said our goodbyes and he raced off into the distance on his jet ski as we watched and cheered, “Goooooo Bud!” And I snapped this picture of him.
I can’t quite wrap my head around him being gone just yet. For now, I just imagine him like this… out on a beautiful sunny day where the lake is glass, riding his jet ski off into the distance.
I will always meet you at the lake.
